Friendly, hardworking, practical, and remarkably unflappable, Mike brings four decades of experience staging, selling, and renovating homes. He’s seen just about everything, and very little surprises him.

Whether your walls need plastering and finishing, a room needs painting, something needs fixing, or you have a collection of odd jobs that have been sitting on your to-do list for far too long, Mike is happy to help.

He takes on small to medium-sized residential projects throughout Toronto’s west end, from Yonge Street to High Park, and south of Bloor Street to Lakeshore.

Straightforward rates

Mike’s rate is $60 per hour, with a three-hour minimum. His time includes preparation, trips to pick up the supplies needed for your job, and clean up. No separate charges for the ordinary things it takes to get the work done.

Older homes can occasionally reveal a surprise or two once work gets underway. If a job turns out to be more involved than expected, Mike will go over the options with you before proceeding.

In-person estimates: the handyman vs. the contractor

There’s a difference between hiring a contractor for a fixed-price large project and hiring an experienced handyman for smaller jobs, where the full extent of the work sometimes isn’t always apparent until it begins.

For jobs that require an in-person assessment, Mike charges a $60 cash estimate fee, covering his visit and a best-effort ballpark estimate based on what he can see.

On rare occassions, particularly in older homes, a repair can uncover additional work. If that happens, Mike will explain the situation, discuss your options, and keep you informed before proceeding. His aim is to give you a realistic starting point, with no surprises left unexplained.

If you hire Mike, the full $60 estimate fee is credited toward his first hour of work.

A schedule that works

Semi-retired and still very much hands-on, Mike keeps a manageable workday of around six hours, balancing smaller jobs with larger projects.

Depending on the season and the work involved, appointments generally fall within daylight hours, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. A three-hour minimum applies.

Mike reserves Saturday evenings from 6 p.m. through Sunday evenings at 6 p.m. for family time.
